The Post Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Professional Practice provides an opportunity for graduates employed in a range of professional posts, across public and private services, to development advanced leadership knowledge and skills, enhancing career prospects and service provision.
Aim of the programme
The programme aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to plan and deliver services within the dynamic context of professional practice by enabling the student to:
- Develop their professional expertise and political awareness through critical reflection.
- Influence and contribute to the strategic direction of the service in a critical and informed way.
- Synthesise and evaluate new theoretical and practice-based knowledge which contributes to professional and service development.

On completion of this programme the successful student will be able to:
- Critically evaluate the key concepts supporting advanced professional roles in leadership.
- Critically examine the legal, ethical and professional issues associated with advanced professional practice in leadership.
- Critically analyse contemporary leadership theory
- Critically evaluate the development and implementation of policy and strategy within their own area of practice.

On completion of this programme the successful student will be able to:
- Use critical reflection to facilitate transformational learning in self and others
- Develop creativity, originality and strategic thought.
- Synthesise information from disparate sources to identify opportunities to transform and improve services.
- Critically analyse and propose solutions to work based problems evaluating their strategic alignment with organisational priorities.
Course content
From the list of designated modules students must complete 30 credits from Group A modules and 30 credits from Group B modules:
Group A Modules:
Leading, developing and working within teams (30 credits)
OR
Leading a Quality Service (15 credits) and Leading service development (15 credits)
Group B Modules:
Policy, Strategy and Planning (30 credits) OR Coaching and mentoring (30 credits)
This programme is quality assured by Middlesex University and the student will receive a Middlesex University award on successful completion.
